How it Works
Our philosophy is that first and foremost we believe that there is only a fraction of a second to get the recipient’s attention before any mail is discarded. Our process is designed to make the most of that sliver of time. It doesn’t matter how eloquent our message, or how pretty the artwork - if we don’t capture anyone’s attention immediately, everything else is a wasted effort.

Rather than have you buy postcards from a variety of sources online, we provide you postcard “kits,” which include the cards, the directions, and the addresses. You provide the labor of addressing the card and adding a short sentence to the pre-printed message. You then have the option of mailing directly to the recipient, or bulk mailing the postcards to an in-state PO Box, where locals will mail them with an in-state postmark.
For November 2025, Cartoons for Democracy is focusing on the Virginia Governor's race by targeting Virgnia-02, which lost it's last house race by <16,000 votes. This will also help plant the seeds of our message for the 2026 congressional election.
How we do it:

We provide postcards where the cartoon art of the card is one of the most effective parts of our message.

Our postcards are never slick, and do not resemble the majority of “junk mail” or other political mail that recipients receive.

Our messages are SHORT so people can read and absorb them at a glance.

Our messages are a combination of pre-written and handwritten. Clearly handwritten messages are wonderful but poorly handwritten messages are a waste of precious resources.

Studies have shown that having an element of handwriting is just as, if not more, effective than entirely handwritten messages for communication, which is why our addresses are always hand-written, and we ask users to add a closing sentence and their name to the card.

We encourage decoration (highlighters, ink stamps, flat stickers) on the message side of the card to make them stand out - but request no decoration on the art/address side of the card (per USPS this increases a card’s likelihood of being rejected).
